COMMANDER TIMOTHY S. DUTTON

Officer In Charge, Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center, Detachment Bahrain

A native of Brunswick, Maine, Commander Timothy Dutton enlisted in the Navy through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program while earning Bachelor degrees in Physics and Mathematics at Radford University in 2004. Upon graduation, he earned his Commission through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla.

Originally designated for submarine warfare, Cmdr. Dutton reported for duty aboard USS Georgia (SSGN 729) during her conversion to a guided missile submarine, serving as Reactor Controls Assistant, Electrical Officer and Communications Officer while qualifying in Submarine Warfare. He was then assigned as the Submarine Liaison Officer for Destroyer Squadron 28 and embarked USS Eisenhower (CVN 69). During this tour, he planned and executed numerous Joint Submarine Warfare Exercises. His final assignment as a submarine officer was at Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment East where he taught Anti-Submarine Warfare. During this final tour, he re-designated as an Engineering Duty Officer (EDO).

As an EDO, Cmdr. Dutton joined the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair, Newport News where he planned and executed the Trials and Certification of USS Theodore Roosevelt’s (CVN 71) Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH). He then earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and Engineer’s degree in Naval Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then joined Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) as the Deputy Waterfront Operations Officer. While at SERMC, he was selected for the Secretary of the Navy Tours with Industry program and spent a year embedded with Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News, Va.

Most recently, Cmdr. Dutton served as the Deputy Director of Waterfront Operations at Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Centers, overseeing plans and policies implemented in the waterfront operations departments across the seven regional maintenance centers.

Cmdr. Dutton assumed the role and responsibilities as Officer in Charge of FDRMC Detachment Bahrain Dec. 15, 2022 where he leads a team of more than 100 Sailors, civilians and contractors, maintaining and modernizing forward deployed naval forces operating in U.S. Fifth Fleet.

Cmdr. Dutton’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit and service medals and ribbons.
