Master Chief Fire Controlman (SW/AW) Eric Vu

Senior Enlisted Leader, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division

Master Chief Petty Officer Fire Controlman Eric Vu serves as the senior enlisted leader aboard Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). In this role, he assists the division commanding officer in all matters pertaining to the warfighting readiness of Sailors, their families and the command. He establishes and maintains conditions to ensure the unit is fully prepared for warfighting while enabling a culture of professional excellence that includes a productive and positive command climate. Vu was born in Malden, Massachusetts, and grew up in Northridge, California. He enlisted in the Navy in 1996, attending Advanced Electronics/Computer Field and Firecontrolman “A” School at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by Mark 15 CloseIn Weapon System (CIWS) Block 1A “C” School at Naval Base San Diego in California. For his first duty station, he served as a group supervisor of the CIWS on the inaugural crew of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), which was homeported in San Diego. After completing Advanced Tomahawk Weapons Control System “C” School, Vu reported to guided-missile destroyer USS Pinckney (DDG 91) in San Diego, where he served as leading petty officer of the ship’s weapons department. Vu has also served as weapons department leading chief petty officer aboard guided-missile destroyer USS Gridley (DDG 101) in San Diego and as strike officer with the forward-deployed Destroyer Squadron 15 in Japan, where he embarked aboard supercarrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Ashore, Vu has completed assignments at Navy Recruiting District Los Angeles, Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, and previously with NSWC PHD, where he provided Tomahawk missile support for the fleet. Vu is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island. He earned a Bachelor of Science in organizational management from University of La Verne in California. His awards and decorations include three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, six Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, eight Good Conduct Medals, the Humanitarian Service Medal and various unit citations and awards.
