INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) was recognized with the Governor’s Workplace Safety “Rising Star” Award at the 2019 Indiana Safety and Health Conference & Expo held on Thursday, February 28 in Indianapolis.

The Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards recognizes Hoosier workplaces that have made employee safety and health a deep-rooted component of their culture. The Rising Star award highlights an organization that has improved the impact on employee safety and health in a positive way.

“It is an honor that our team won this award,” says Carter Divine, a Safety Specialist at NSWC Crane. “This is the first time we have received this award as a team and showcases our efforts to provide current and future employees a safe, transparent, and healthy place of work.”

Over the past few years, NSWC Crane Occupational Safety and Health have enhanced overall safety to accommodate the growing number of employees and diversifying technologies on base.

“Process, equipment, and machinery supporting NSWC Crane mission varies greatly throughout the organization,” says Carter. “The complicated infrastructure and array of project capabilities takes an organization of expertise to ensure a safe working environment. We do this by providing initial workplace safety and health training, continuous education, and cultivate a culture that creates a safe and efficient work environment.”

Divine says this award exemplifies the efforts made by all Crane employees.

“This has been a team effort between our staff and all employees on base. In a safe and healthy work environment, employees are better equipped to complete the critical projects for the warfighter.”

NSWC Crane is a naval laboratory and a field activity of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) with mission areas in Expeditionary Warfare, Strategic Missions and Electronic Warfare. The warfare center is responsible for multi-domain, multi- spectral, full life cycle support of technologies and systems enhancing capability to today's Warfighter.
