USNS Yuma (EPF 8) Keel Authenticated

160329-N-YE579-001 (March 29, 2016) MOBILE, Alabama –The Honorable Douglas Nicholls (left), mayor of Yuma, Arizona, etches his initials into the keel plate of the future USNS Yuma (EPF 8) with the help of Austal USA Class A Welder Ms. Courtney Cagle, as part of the Keel Authentication ceremony March 29. Expeditionary Fast Transport Ships, EPFs, are non-combatant vessels designed to operate in shallow-draft ports and waterways, increasing operational flexibility for a wide range of activities.

140725-N-FC670-226 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 25, 2014) The guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) underway in close formation as one of forty-two ships and submarines representing 15 international partner nations during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014. Champlain is currently conducting live-fire testing off the coast of California with its 5-inch guns to verify the new mode on the SPQ-9B while the crew undergoes operator training to ensure proficiency with the new capability. USS Porter Conducts First SeaRAM Firing from DDG

160304-N-AL577-001 ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 4, 2016) SeaRAM, a new system for guided-missile destroyers, is test fired March 4, 2016 from the guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78). Porter is forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, and is preparing for deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division’s (NSWC Crane) first female chief of staff has received Indiana’s most prestigious recognition of women in the state.  The Indiana Commission for Women presents Torchbearer Awards to those who have stepped forward as leaders by breaking down barriers to women’s full participation while demonstrating achievement in the areas of their professional careers, community leadership and/or public service.  Lawrence County’s Angie Lewis joined the ranks of those honored for their extraordinary contributions and pioneering spirits at a special awards ceremony in Indianapolis Wednesday evening.
