Junior Navy Scientists and Engineers Make Early Warning CBR Detection via UAVs a Reality

DAHLGREN, Va. (June 15, 2017) - Navy scientist Charles Miller and mathematician Jessica Hildebrand perform pre-flight checks on the SCAPEGOAT chemical, biological, and radiological (CBR) detection system. The SCAPEGOAT system - developed by a team of Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division junior scientists and engineers - demonstrates the capability to deploy a modular CBR sensor system aboard multiple unmanned aerial vehicle platforms.

DAHLGREN, Va. (May 24, 2017) - Boy Scouts Drew Warder and Lucas Umberger present Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Commanding Officer Capt. Godfrey 'Gus' Weekes with a Certificate of Appreciation after his speech to Boy Scout Troop 1404. Weekes spoke to the troop about his Navy career and world-wide travels, citing examples of the importance of being prepared and looking out for shipmates, fellow scouts, and teammates in any situation, to include hiking and camping expeditions.

NSWC Dahlgren Division Leader Retires After 34 Years of Navy Civil Service

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  (May 18, 2017) - Bobby Starks is awarded a certificate of retirement from federal service by Cmdr. Andrew J. Hoffman, Commanding Officer of Combat Direction Systems Activity Dam Neck. Starks retired after more than 34 years as a Navy civilian.

NSWC Dahlgren Division Personnel Awarded for Achievements Vital to Current and Future Fleet

DAHLGREN, Va. (May 17, 2017) - Kathleen Jones holds a framed certificate moments after receiving the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Annual Honor Awards ceremony. Jones was recognized for outstanding, significant, and substantial technical contributions to the Navy in Radar Systems. "Ms. Jones has demonstrated exemplary leadership in expanding her Division's portfolio and developing technically sound leaders to tackle current and future Naval radar challenges," according to the citation, adding that she, "established a culture where mentoring, collaboration, and teambuilding are the norm for developing innovative solutions to novel challenges introduced through the ever-evolving threat." Rep. Wittman to Navy Scientists and Engineers: Make Ideas Operational in the Fleet - Rapidly

Rob Wittman, R-Va., tells Navy scientists and engineers that their innovative ideas - and ability to get new technologies and systems operational in the Fleet quickly - will be leveraged to the nation’s advantage. “Keep the ideas coming and let’s find a way to get them to the Fleet faster,” said Wittman who chairs the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. “We can bring innovation creation in a faster manner to our men and women out there in the front lines, and we can do things less expensively.” More than two dozen speakers, including the congressman, spoke at the conference on Mission Engineering & Analysis, and Integration & Interoperability, sponsored by the American Society of Naval Engineers and Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. NEEC Students Tour NSWC Dahlgren Division

DAHLGREN, Va. (April 26, 2017) - Roger Campbell, a Navy lethality engineer, explains the Laser Lethality and Development lab capabilities to undergraduate and graduate students touring Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) during the annual Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) meeting.  The students are looking through a 16" optic lens - part of the NSWCDD Laser Technology and  Analysis Branch laboratory's optics layout - used for evaluating laser effectiveness against various materials.

DAHLGREN, Va. (April 14, 2017) - U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen peer down the barrel of the electromagnetic railgun prototype launcher at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division. Navy scientists and engineers briefed the Midshipmen on electromagnetic launchers, hypervelocity projectiles, and directed energy weapons, in addition to the command's capabilities in complex warfare systems development and integration to incorporate electric weapons technology into existing and future fighting forces and platforms.
