NSWC IHEODTD Technical Director Ashley Johnson and Commanding Officer Scott Kraft participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Energetics Technology Center's (ETC's) new Technology Transfer, Training and TechFire (T4) space at the Town of Indian Head's Black Box Theatre, March 1. The ETC is a is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization and the TechFire program is funded by the Charles County Economic Development Department and through contracts with the Army Research Lab and the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division.

CRADA between Carderock, Oceana Energy Brings In-Stream Hydrokinetic Device to Marketplace

This in-stream hydrokinetic device, developed by Oceana Energy, is designed to generate energy by leveraging natural water flow in a river. Oceana Energy tested the device in 2014 at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division's David Taylor Model Basin in West Bethesda, Md. During the testing in the model basin, the device was able to generate up to 8.15 kilowatts of power. The device's rotational rate was calculated by placing a single black fin on the device that could be tracked while viewing video playback. (photo provided by Oceana Energy/Released)

Navy Scientist Wins Award for War Gaming Simulation Innovation, Available to DoD

DAHLGREN, Va. - Dr. Mary Ann Cummings won the 2016 Naval Sea Systems Command Scientist of the Year Award for a modeling and simulation innovation called Orchestrated Simulation through Modeling (OSM). "We can create simulations that show what could happen and take data from an exercise to show how that exercise might play out as a real event," said Cummings.
