Dr. John Lund
U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility & Japan Regional Maintenance Center
Dr. Lund graduated from Brigham Young University in 1989 with a degree in Applied Mathematics. He then joined the Navy’s nuclear power program and completed nuclear power school, qualifying as a Naval Nuclear Power Engineer. He served on the nuclear submarines USS Michigan (SSBN-727) and USS Helena (SSN-725).
After 12 years in submarine service, he transitioned into the Navy’s Professional Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community. He earned a second bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, and in 1995, he began teaching as an associate professor at the University of Utah.
During his time in the Navy’s professional engineering corps, Dr. Lund specialized in managing large, multimillion-dollar projects. He served as the Chief Engineer on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) and concluded his 25-year naval career at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he held the position of Business and Strategic Planning Officer (C1200). Dr. Lund retired with the rank of Captain.
Since his retirement from the Navy, Dr. Lund has worked as a consultant for the Department of Defense, started and sold his own businesses, and served as the Executive Director of a drug rehabilitation center in Draper, Utah. He is the holder of two patents for organic fertilizer and was awarded a Doctor of Strategic Leadership in 2023.
In 2019, Dr. Lund returned to government service at the Ship Repair Facility (SRF) in Yokosuka, Japan, where he currently serves as the Executive Director.
