NSWC Crane leads Silent Swarm electromagnetic spectrum experimentation event

ALPENA, Mich. – Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) led Silent Swarm 2023, a two-week experimentation event to further develop early-stage Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) capabilities. Silent Swarm 2023 was sponsored by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Integrated Sensing and Cyber office (OUSD R&E IS&C). The event was executed July 9-21 in Alpena, Michigan at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center (NADWC).

FDRMC Leadership Visits Aegis Ashore Sites in Support of Maintenance Mission

Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center’s (FDRMC) Commanding Officer Capt. Brian Karosich and Executive Director Christopher Ledlow visited the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) located at Naval Support Facility (NSF) Redzikowo, Poland. FDRMC is responsible for the planned maintenance and modernization of AAMDS as well as emergent repairs through fleet technical assistance. FDRMC project teams oversee comprehensive Chief of Naval Operations maintenance availability on-site. Planned maintenance periods ensures Aegis Ashore receives needed repair and modernization so that it remains fully mission capable throughout its service to the NATO alliance.

NSWC Crane employee awarded for significant contributions in preparation for the Inspector General Inspection

Garry Wieneke was awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal, which is the fourth highest honorary award within the Department of the Navy, for his work as the Command Inspection Coordinator. In this role Wieneke was charged with preparing NSWC Crane for an upcoming inspection performed by the Inspector General. Wieneke oversaw an inspection preparation team from across the command who performed mock inspections, ensured processes are up-to-date, and self-assessed NSWC Crane’s compliance areas. Wieneke also traveled to an Inspector General Inspection at the Southeast Regional Maintenance Center in Jacksonville, Florida to better understand the overall inspection process and document lessons learned.
