U.S. Navy Mission 22 Team Develops ‘Game Changing’ Unmanned Capability

IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. (Sept. 12, 2017) - Navy Sly Fox Mission 22 junior scientists and engineers brief Lt. Akwasi Fosu on the new capabilities of Weaponized Autonomous System Prototype (WASP) after a demonstration held at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.  The seven-member Mission 22 team integrated WASP with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to provide an aerial perspective for increased situational awareness. Navy civilian and military personnel witnessed the Mission 22 demonstration of the Collaborative Aerial Network for the Autonomous Remote Engagement System – fully-integrated with the UAV, WASP, and a command and control station while detecting, tracking, and engaging targets on the Potomac River Test Range. NSWC Crane Leaders Brief Office of Vice President on Success of Innovation Ecosystem

WASHINGTON (Feb. 11, 2017) - Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Commander Rear Adm. Tom Druggan presents the Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) Community Service Award to Dwayne Nelson, NSWC Dahlgren Division engineer, at the 31st annual BEYA gala. "This award has inspired and challenged me to contribute more towards empowering our youth and others to serve our community while encouraging interest in highly-rewarding science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields," said Nelson. "Giving back and empowering people to reach their full potential is vital to stimulating enthusiasm about STEM. DAHLGREN, Va. - Vice Adm. William Hilarides, commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, presents the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award to Marie Colitti at an Aug. 11 awards ceremony. Hilarides congratulated Colitti and nine of her colleagues  - James Morrissett, Troy Bentz, Lorilee Geisweidt, Amanda Cardiel, Steven Sovine, Keith Manion, Meredith Murray, Jeffery McConnell and Christopher Knowlton - who also received the award for their impact on the Small Surface Combatant Task Force last year. "In response to the Secretary of Defense-directed study of a more lethal and more survivable small surface combatant, these recipients used their professional expertise to assist in the development of an extraordinary body of work that establishes the direction for a significant portion of the U.S. Navy shipbuilding and Force capability that reaches deep into this century," according to the citation. "The unassailable logic, method, and results that these recipients exhibited and applied to this task, provided the Department of the Navy and Department of Defense with the confidence it needs to make decisions of such high importance."

PENSACOLA, Florida - Machinist Mate Third Class Petty Officer (SW) Logan Peters uses a hand-held RFID scanner to conduct inventory aboard USS Independence. RFID technology provides the ability to dramatically reduce the time sailors spend conducting parts and equipment inventory in support of ship replenishment.
