Carderock supports energy innovation with Wave Energy Prize tests

The Wave Energy Prize competition has started its final phase of testing at the Naval Surface Warfare Center,
Carderock Division, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The final phase is taking place at the Maneuvering
and Seakeeping Basin in West Bethesda, Md. Nine teams were selected to build a one-twentieth scale model
of their Wave Energy Converter (WEC) device to showcase their performance and compete to win $1.5 million.

160304-N-AL577-001 ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 4, 2016) SeaRAM, a new system for guided-missile destroyers, is test fired March 4, 2016 from the guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78). Porter is forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, and is preparing for deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

Student interns at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, pilot watertight proof-of-concept vehicles in the David Taylor Model Basin during the inaugural Naval Sea Systems Command Additive Manufacturing (AM) Challenge in West Bethesda, Md., July 28, 2016.
