Future USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119) Keel Authenticated

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (June 1, 2016) - Mrs. Ima Black places her initials onto the keel plate of DDG 119 during the ceremony authenticating the keel of the future USS Delbert D. Black. The destroyer was named in honor of Black’s late husband Delbert Black, the first Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. The Flight IIA Arleigh Burke class ship will serve as an integral player in global maritime security, engaging in air, undersea, surface, strike and ballistic missile defense.

DAHLGREN, Va. - Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Commanding Officer Capt. Brian Durant presents Dohn Burnett with the John Adolphus Dahlgren Award for his years of exceptional technical and organizational leadership of NSWCDD at the command's Annual Honor Awards ceremony on May 18, 2016. "Mr. Burnett achieved numerous technical milestones throughout his exemplary career, including the integration and installation of the Aegis Baseline 9 combat system, basis cyber capability integration, establishment of the Fast Frigate Program, and the foundation for integration of railgun and laser systems into surface combatants," according to the  citation.

Navy Team Wins NAVSEA Commanders Award for EPIC Engine Invented to Transform Amphibious Missions

WASHINGTON -Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Philadelphia Division engineer Justin Halls - standing via live video in lower left screen - joins NSWC Dahlgren Division engineers Greg Buchanan and Vince Vendetti at a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) ceremony held in the Washington Navy Yard, April 26. NAVSEA Commander Vice Adm. William Hilarides and NAVSEA Executive Director Bill Deligne honored the engineers with the 2016 NAVSEA Commander's Innovation Award for their work on a new innovation called the Extreme Power Internal Combustion (EPIC) engine. "Our team has the initiative, drive, creativity, ingenuity, and experience to bring this game-changing, mission transformational technology to reality," said Buchanan.  "Combined with the rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, and innovation design capabilities of the collaborating warfare centers, we will bring this engine's decisive advantage to the warfighter." China Lake, Calif. - Dr. John Burrow gets behind the wheel of a driverless, Ford F-350 truck with software integrated by the Applied Manufacturing Technology Department at Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division China Lake. The department helps modify the trucks to pull targets during weapons testing. "Additive manufacturing will fundamentally change how we think, how we do business, the cost variable, and how we make decisions," Burrow - Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, Test and Evaluation - told 3D Printing exhibitors and visitors at the Navy Additive Manufacturing Showcase April 20, 2016. "I think you are about to see its operational and technical potential literally explode off the map."

U.S. Navy Accepts Delivery of Future USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000)

Following a crew certification period and October commissioning ceremony in Baltimore, Zumwalt will transit to her homeport in San Diego for a Post Delivery Availability and Mission Systems Activation. DDG 1000, pictured during acceptance trials in April, is the lead ship of the Zumwalt-class destroyers; next-generation multi-mission surface combatants tailored for land attack and littoral dominance.
