NSWC Dahlgren Division Automates Target Detection and Tracking for Army’s Next Generation Combat Vehicle

IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. – Several potential targets walk in an urban setting as Intelligent Tracker automatically generates their optical target tracks. The Intelligent Tracker – a new product developed by Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) – will increase the Army’s Next Generation Combat Vehicle’s intelligent fire control capability to control its medium and large caliber weapon systems. Optical target tracks are generated automatically for use in direct fire weapon systems. The tracks are used in conjunction with a fire control system to lock onto a specific threat, easing the burden on the operator. Intelligent Tracker is capable of automatically generating target tracks for a wide range of targets and adding additional automation to the weapon control processes.  (U.S. Navy image/Released)

PSNS & IMF begins COVID-19 vaccination roll out for workforce

Jip Mosman, commander, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility, receives the COVID-19 vaccination Feb. 10, 2021, in the former Sam Adams Brewhouse on Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton. Approximately 200 PSNS & IMF personnel received the first-of-two Moderna COVID-19 vaccine shots in what is expected to be a phased employee vaccination process.

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division Partners with UCSB to Build Innovative Corrosion Testing System for Combat Systems

A final prototype setup constructed by University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) mechanical engineering student Matthew Kaplan to model the flow needed in the automated corrosion testing system. The system has a sump pump in the middle and two rotating arms on either side. The five seniors from UCSB, along with Armen Kvryan, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s lead materials engineer, have been working on the automated corrosion testing system project since last September.
