Department of the Navy Honors NSWC Dahlgren Division Human Resources Specialist for Technical Excellence

IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. – Bridget White, human resources specialist in the Planning, Policy, and Analysis Branch of the Human Resources Department at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) garnered top honors in the Department of the Navy (DoN) Human Resources (HR) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Community Awards for Excellence in the Technical Excellence: Planning, Policy, Analysis and Program Management category. She was awarded for the technical rigor she applied to improving the NSWCDD External Awards Program. “She is truly representative of the professionalism and dedication required of the HR of today, and has the passion, forethought, and collaborative approach required of the HR support of the future,” said White’s supervisor and nominator, Audrey Lohr, Planning, Policy, and Analysis Branch head; NSWCDD Corporate Operations Department. First Organically Executed Cold Spray Repair Developed and Completed at NNSY

The Norfolk Naval Shipyard Cold Spray Team performed the first organically executed cold spray repair for any U.S. naval shipyard on a component for the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) Project. Members of the NNSY Cold Spray Team included: Code 930’s Nick Allen, Jim Wiseman, Sean Schuffert, Sterling Slaughter, Rick Smith, Robert Ward, Tim Holland, Richard Griswold; Code 134’s Lenka Ovcina; Code 265’s Kyle Paragian and Stanley; and the Welding and Non-Destructive Test Engineering Department’s (Code 138) Mike Mannix.

Partnership overcomes facemask challenges for deaf and hard of hearing teammates

Facemasks, produced through efforts of the Sail Loft, Shop 64 and employees from the Home Team Mask project are distributed to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility deaf and hard of hearing employees. The mask were made with a see-through panel allowing employees to see lips and facial expressions. Trying one on for the first time is Brandon Salley, an electrical worker with Shop 51, Electricians.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard makes improvements to enhanced screening procedures

Norfolk Naval Shipyard has been making improvements to its enhanced screening procedures which began April 22 for entering the installation, with personnel taking temperatures and asking questions to ensure employees are not exhibiting any symptoms or at increased risk for having COVID-19.  NNSY is the first installation in the region and first of the four public shipyards to conduct temperature checks at its gates.

Teams Band together to Perform First Time Maintenance on USS Georgia (SSGN 729)

The Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN 729)(Gold) returns to its homeport at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga. Ohio-class guided-missile submarines are capable of carrying up to 154 tomahawk land-attack cruise missiles. The base is home to all East Coast Ohio-Class submarines.

A team of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) student interns from Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) conducted research to enhance communications of autonomous unmanned sailboats during the 2019-2020 academic year. This research was part of their Capstone Senior Design Project.
