Naval Historians, Authors Highlight Battle of Midway Heroes at Dahlgren

(Nov. 15, 2019) - Timothy Orr, an associate professor of military history at Old Dominion University, and co-author of “Never Call Me A Hero:  A Legendary American Dive-Bomber Pilot Remembers the Battle of Midway,” stresses the importance of never forgetting the Battle of Midway warfighters. He shares their stories as a part of the Naval Heritage Command Lecture Series sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Integrated Combat Systems Department Nov. 15 at the base theater. “No matter what they did, whether they came back or died out on the ocean, were wounded, or blew up in their plane – all of that is a story worth telling,” he said. “It explains how the U.S. eventually triumphed over the empire of Japan in the Pacific War. It really shapes the world as we know it today.”

NSWC Dahlgren Holds Cupcake Competition at Veterans Day Event

(Nov. 8, 2019) – Cupcakes are pictured at a combat cupcake competition sponsored by the NSWCDD Strategic and Computing Systems Department (A) and the NSWCDD Weapons Control and Integration Department (H). Scientists, engineers, business, and support specialists from A and H voted for winners in the best tasting and best presentation cupcake categories. The A and H personnel also paid tribute to America’s living veterans – specifically to those veterans in attendance and throughout the command – with speeches and good news about opportunities for the command’s veterans, including a new initiative called the Veteran Integration Program.
