U.S. Navy Accepts Delivery of Future USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000)

160421-N-YE579-005 (May 20, 2016) BATH, Maine - The U.S. Navy accepted delivery of DDG 1000, the future USS Zumwalt destroyer May 20. Following a crew certification period and October commissioning ceremony in Baltimore, Zumwalt will transit to her homeport in San Diego for a Post Delivery Availability and Mission Systems Activation. DDG 1000, pictured during acceptance trials in April, is the lead ship of the Zumwalt-class destroyers; next-generation multi-mission surface combatants tailored for land attack and littoral dominance. GULF OF MEXICO - The Navy's future amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26) successfully completed Builder's Trials March 4. The principal mission of LPD 17 San Antonio class ships is to deploy combat and support elements of Marine Expeditionary Units and Brigades. With the capability of transporting and debarking air cushion or conventional landing craft and augmented by helicopters or MV-22 vertical take-off and landing aircraft, these ships support amphibious assault, special operations, and expeditionary warfare missions. 160329-N-YE579-001 (March 29, 2016) MOBILE, Alabama –The Honorable Douglas Nicholls (left), mayor of Yuma, Arizona, etches his initials into the keel plate of the future USNS Yuma (EPF 8) with the help of Austal USA Class A Welder Ms. Courtney Cagle, as part of the Keel Authentication ceremony March 29. Expeditionary Fast Transport Ships, EPFs, are non-combatant vessels designed to operate in shallow-draft ports and waterways, increasing operational flexibility for a wide range of activities.

PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The future USS Portland (LPD 27) was successfully launched at the Huntington Ingalls Industries shipyard Feb 13. The ship was transferred from the land level facility to the drydock, which was then flooded allowing her to float off the blocks. LPD 17 class ships are versatile players in maritime security with the ability to support a variety of amphibious assault, special operations or expeditionary warfare missions.
