College and High School Interns Brief Findings at Dahlgren’s First Combined NREIP & SEAP Poster Session

(July 25, 2019) — University of Virginia junior Kimberly Louie explains how the deck-gun she helped create and attach to a drone operates while briefing to military and government personnel during her 2019 summer internship. Louie was among 20 students who completed their internships at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) encourages students to pursue science and engineering careers, furthers education via mentoring and their participation in research, and makes them aware of Navy research and technology efforts, which can lead to civilian employment within the Navy.
High School Students Complete Summer Internships at NSWCPD

PHILADELPHIA (August 7, 2019) High school students working at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) completed their eight-week summer internships by presenting their research projects to the Command’s engineers. Every year, NSWCPD partners with the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) to provide high school students an opportunity to participate in research while being mentored by professional scientists and engineers. NSWC Dahlgren Division STEM Mentors Inspire Youth at Annual Summer Academy

(June 26, 2019) – A middle school student prepares for an aerospace engineering rocketry activity at the 2019 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, held June 24-28. She was among 70 middle school students who constructed and calibrated their water rockets while discovering the optimal amount of fuel (water) to launch a ball the highest. The STEM Summer ‘campers’ worked in teams to organize and analyze their data in order to determine what fuel volume will result in the highest launch.
Navy and local academia host STEM Summer Camp

Dan Flisek, physicist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division teaches Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Camp students about how chemistry relates to local water samples affected by last year’s Category 5 Hurricane Michael. Flisek revealed to students, with a water-quality report, pollutants found in local water reservoirs from the storm’s aftermath.
NSWC Dahlgren Division Kicks off 2019 STEM Summer Academy

(June 26, 2019) - Middle school students build a robot at the 2019 Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD)-sponsored Navy science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, held June 24-28. They are among 70 middle school students who are developing their teamwork and problem-solving skills in math and science while partnering with a teacher and an NSWCDD scientist or engineer. The STEM Summer ‘campers’ will deploy the robots they design, build, and program to respond to 10 missions - including the delivery of humanitarian aid, rotating troops and transporting an electromagnetic railgun to the deck of a Navy ship – by the end of the week-long academy.
