New technology keeps Sailors safe, out of minefields
April 11, 2019 — Engineers at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) recently completed a flight test using a device that will prevent Navy personnel from having to enter a minefield during mine hunting and clearing missions... MORE

The Airborne Surface Quad Thruster Interface Device, or ASQUID, attaches to the side of a MH-60 helicopter and allows the crew to lowers a MK-18 into the water to search for mines preventing Navy personnel from having to enter a minefield.

U.S. Navy Successfully Completes Developmental Testing of ‘Q-20C Towed Minehunting Sonar
April 8, 2019 — After completing Developmental Testing (DT) in February of 2019, the U.S. Navy is another step closer to delivering the AN/AQS-20C (Q-20C) towed minehunting sonar to the Fleet. The Q-20C has advanced acoustic and electro-optic sensing capabilities that will detect, localize and classify bottom, close-tethered, moored, and volume-moored mines... MORE

The AN/AQS-20C Towed Mine-hunting Sonar is streamed into Gulf of Mexico waters of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division Gulf test range. Developmental Testing was completed on Feb. 12, 2019.

Pearl Harbor Minesweeper Ship Bell arrives at NSWC PCD

Navy Mentors Challenge Students at 2019 Regional SeaPerch Competition
March 12, 2019 — Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) scientists and engineers partnered with academia March 8 and challenged students to a regional SeaPerch competition at the University of West Florida. Students at this year’s event prepared their remotely operated vehicles (ROV) to compete by navigating through an obstacle and a challenge course... MORE

Students had to complete a “finesse” challenge where the SeaPerch had to open a door, swim through a hoop, and pick up small targets before returning to the surface.
