NSWC Crane Pathways intern develops satellite to launch on SpaceX rocket for NASA research

A Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) Pathways intern, as part of a team of students at the University of Southern Indiana (USI), designed and built a satellite to launch on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on Dec. 5 as part of an operational cargo delivery flight to the International Space Station (ISS).

Dr. Kyle Crompton and Noah Roberts (not pictured) were named NSWC Crane Technology Transfer (T2) and Patent Contributors of the Year for their T2 program efforts. Dr. Crompton produced critical results by using tools available at the T2 office to partner with academia and industry. Roberts was recognized for using patents to make swift enhancements, modifications, and repairs to immediate problems in the field.

MIT launches academic study on NSWC Crane Innovation Ecosystem

Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) will perform an in-depth academic case study of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) Innovation Ecosystem. The Department of Defense (DoD) Laboratories Office within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) has awarded a competitive contract to MIT to execute this analysis. MIT staff will launch this one-year case study October 11 at NSWC Crane.

NSWC Crane Division, Ivy Tech Awarded 2018 FLC Midwest Regional Award for STEM, T2 Efforts

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division and Ivy Tech Community College were awarded the State and Local Economic Development Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) for their partnership on a STEM summer camp. For the past two years, NSWC Crane and The Gayle & Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship at Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington have collaborated on the camp, which targeted young people with entrepreneurial dreams from grade 7 to 10.
