NSWC Crane employee creates software automation tool that improves efficiency by more than 90 percent

A Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) employee has created a software tool that implements required security checks automatically, increasing efficiency by more than 90 percent and saving around $600-thousand a year. The team currently working on this tool has expanded its capability to support warfare centers across the country. Isaac Phillips, a Linux Administrator at NSWC Crane, started the process to make this tool three years ago.

NSWC Crane to hold Change of Command Ceremony

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) held a formal Change of Command Ceremony on Wednesday, July 1. Capt. Duncan McKay relieved Capt. Mark Oesterreich after three years as NSWC Crane’s 29th Commanding Officer. Capt. Oesterreich will retire from the U.S. Navy after 29 years of service.

NSWC Crane employees in the Mobile Technology and Repair Complex (MTRC) program used their unique skillset to provide Special Operations Forces (SOF) personal protective gear (PPG) during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

When the COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout the world, demand was high for PPG. MTRC personnel made thousands of masks made for civilians at Crane and Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) as well as to military members and the SOF community in Afghanistan, Africa, and Europe. Along with these masks, MTRC personnel also created other protective and COVID-19 specific gear including test tube holders, face shields, desk shields, door openers, and isolation chambers for helicopters.
