NSWC Crane's Brooke Pyne Wins National FLC Award
March 8, 2017 — Brooke Pyne, the technology transfer (T2) manager at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has been named the National T2 Rookie of the Year by the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC). In the two-plus years since then, Pyne has helped elevate NSWC Crane’s T2 program to an unprecedented level in terms of numbers of signed T2 agreements, strategic partnerships with state organizations, universities, and industry, and the size and quality of the lab’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio. ATLANTIC OCEAN—A Longbow Hellfire Missile is fired from Littoral Combat Ship USS Detroit (LCS 7) on Feb. 28 as part of a structural test firing of the Surface to Surface Missile Module (SSMM). The test marked the first vertical missile launched from an LCS and the first launch of a missile from the SSMM from an LCS.

Norfolk Naval Shipyard employee Paul Foster works on a noise attenuator he designed for drying towers used to create freeze seals. The attenuator has reduced noise levels in the work area from 108 decibels to 84 decibels, reducing the risk of hearing loss by workers and eliminating the need for double hearing protection.

Update on ex-USS Enterprise (CVN 65) Recycling Approach
February 27, 2017 — WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy has decided to cancel the August 2016 Request for Proposal for the commercial recycling of the non-nuclear portions of ex-USS Enterprise (CVN 65), taking no action at this time.
