NSWC Crane co-hosts annual Electromagnetic Warfare Conference for experts across Services

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) co-hosted the annual Association of Old Crows (AOC) Electromagnetic Warfare Capability Gaps and Enabling Technologies Conference on May 16-18. NSWC Crane co-hosted the 2023 conference in conjunction with AOC.

IMAGE: Fiber optics technology enables the transmittance of data as light signals through strands of glass. Major benefits of fiber optic cables include little interference to the electromagnetic field, dependability and high bandwidth that can handle high volume data transmissions. A team at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division in the Fiber Optics Engineering and Operations Branch serves as the Navy’s Fiber Optic In-Service Engineering Agent.

NSWC Crane employee awarded for notable contributions during the Inspector General Inspection

Michael Wallace was awarded the Department of the Navy (DON) Civilian Service Commendation Medal, which is the fourth highest civilian award, for his work as the Assistant Lead for the IG Inspection Preparation. In this role Wallace assisted with the development of an overall IG Plan of Action and Milestones, assembled a team to conduct mock inspections, provided regular updates to NSWC Crane’s Commanding Officer and Technical Director, and documented best practices for future inspections.

NSWC Crane SMART Scholar steps up to support prototype development team

Elliott Yu, an Engineer and SMART Scholar at NSWC Crane, served as Point of Contact (POC) for the EM-P team. Originally, Yu was assigned to shadow and assist the main POC/test engineer for the project–but when this person had to take leave, Yu was tasked with taking over the position. Yu took over the role within months of starting at NSWC Crane and his responsibilities included serving as a project representative, contractor contact, coordinator for scheduling purposes, test engineer, and report writer.
