NEDU Saturation Dive Team Joins DPAA Recovery Mission

Members of the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) test the Saturation Fly-Away Diving System prior to a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) underwater recovery mission in the Pacific Ocean, Feb. 25, 2023. DPAA personnel conducted an underwater excavation operation in an effort to find a U.S. aircraft crew lost over Papua New Guinea during World War II.
NSWC Crane engineer received prestigious award for providing extraordinary value to Fleet Ballistic Missile effort

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) engineer, Jeffrey Johann, received a prestigious award for providing extraordinary value to the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) effort. Johann received the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Director’s Award in a ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard in May.

NSWC Crane Chief Engineer for Microwave Devices awarded DON Meritorious Civilian Service Award

K. Bryan Mitsdarffer received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the third highest honorary award in the Navy, due to his work as the Chief Engineer for Microwave Devices at NSWC Crane. Upon receiving his award, Mitsdarffer stated that he was grateful for the support from his co-workers and supervisors. “I am very appreciative for my co-workers and supervisors who supported my nomination for this award. I have been privileged to work with many talented and capable people throughout my career. I feel that all of the good work that has been completed and referenced in the award nomination was not done alone, but with a talented group of people. Their efforts helped lead to all the success I have experienced in my career,” Mitsdarffer previously won the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in May 1997.

The availability began April 1. Reaching the 50-percent milestone keeps the project team on track for an on-time completion.
