National Society of Black Engineers Honor U.S. Navy Engineer as Professional Member of the Year

DAHLGREN, Va. – Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) engineer Serita Seright was honored by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) recently as its Region II "Professionals Member of the Year" for her leadership impacting its mission in Virginia, NSWCDD announced, May 16.  “Paying it forward is important to me because we can increase the number of black engineers by using our knowledge and resources to create the next generation of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) leaders,” said Seright, who is responsible for promoting technical education and careers, interacting with academia from pre-school to graduate school, and acting as a support system for NSBE student chapters.

U.S. Navy Accepts Delivery of Future USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26)

GULF OF MEXICO - The Navy's future amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26) successfully completed Builder's Trials March 4. The principal mission of LPD 17 San Antonio class ships is to deploy combat and support elements of Marine Expeditionary Units and Brigades. With the capability of transporting and debarking air cushion or conventional landing craft and augmented by helicopters or MV-22 vertical take-off and landing aircraft, these ships support amphibious assault, special operations, and expeditionary warfare missions. Future USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Completes Acceptance Trials

The acceptance trial is the last significant milestone before delivery of the ship to the Navy, which is planned for later this spring.
