Healthcare and Insurance

Through the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program, employees can get comprehensive health insurance coverage for themselves, their spouse, and their children under age 26.

There are no waiting periods and no restrictions on pre-existing conditions.

Participating employees have 11 or more health plans to choose from, each covering:

Routine physical exams

Ambulance services

Urgent care

Doctor’s office visits

Inpatient hospital care

Mental health services

Specialist visits

Surgery

Smoking cessation aids

Lab tests

X-rays

Physical therapy

Prescriptions

Maternity care

And More

Each pay period, employees pay about 30% of the premium and the agency pays about 70%. Generally, employees also pay part of the cost for any service they receive.

For additional information on available insurance plans, visit the Office of Personnel Management healthcare website.

Life Insurance

Most employees at NSWC Corona are eligible for participation in the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program – the largest group life insurance program in the world, covering over four (4) million Federal employees, retirees, and their family members.

FEGLI provides group term life insurance and consists of basic life insurance and three options. New employees are automatically covered by basic life insurance, unless the employee waives such coverage. Employees can elect to participate in Optional insurance in addition to basic.

The cost of basic insurance is shared between the employee and the government. Employees pay 2/3 of the total cost and the government pays 1/3. Age does not affect the cost of basic insurance. Optional insurance is paid in full by the employee and cost is dependent upon age.

For more information on FEGLI, including eligibility and enrollment requirements, see the Office of Personnel Management life insurance website.
