The effort was part of Naval Sea Systems Command’s Naval Sustainment System – Shipyards (NSS-SY) program that began in 2019 as a pilot program designed to remove barriers to productivity. The process improvement was related to a backlog in receipt inspection process that had affected the timely distribution of material and parts to ships undergoing maintenance availabilities.
