NSWC Dahlgren Sailors and Civilians Celebrate Navy's Birthday

Sailor cutting the Navy's birthday cake with the command's youngest Sailor, Lt. Adam Mattison. The Navy birthday cake-cutting ceremony is important to all Sailors, as it is an annual renewal of each Sailor's commitment to the Navy and 
the Navy's commitment to our nation's quest for peace and freedom worldwide. Perchalski and Mattison cut the cake with a sword, a traditional reminder that NSWCDD Sailors are among a band of warriors, committed to carrying arms 
so that the United States and its people may live in peace.

Navy Innovators Reveal Revolutionary Research to Counter Emerging Threats

(Sept. 25, 2018) – Associate investigators Teeya Roche and Megan Kozub are pictured at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) In-house Laboratory Independent Research (ILIR) and Independent Applied Research (IAR) End of Year Review. They identified challenges, objectives, accomplishments and future benefits related to their IAR project -- “Data Visualization Support for Creation of a Numerical Table: Effects on Training and Performance” -- to Navy technical managers, engineers, and scientists as well as representatives from academia, industry, transition partners, and other key stakeholders. The innovative tool can reduce Sailor workload by minimizing the required sectors that a warfighter must monitor for each ship based on the global coverage area of the Fleet doctrine.

Sailors and Civilians Race Calculator Robots With Baltimore NJROTC

Sailors assigned to the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Maryland (SSBN 738) and engineers from Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division demonstrate calculator-controlled robots to Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps students at Mergenthaler Vocational Technical Senior High School as part of Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore. Calculator-controlled robots are part of Carderock's Division's science, technology, engineering and math outreach program and teaches students to program the robots to carry out a variety of tasks. MDFWASB is Baltimore's celebration of the sea services and provides an opportunity for the citizens of Maryland and the city of Baltimore to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as see firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. MIT launches academic study on NSWC Crane Innovation Ecosystem

Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) will perform an in-depth academic case study of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) Innovation Ecosystem. The Department of Defense (DoD) Laboratories Office within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) has awarded a competitive contract to MIT to execute this analysis. MIT staff will launch this one-year case study October 11 at NSWC Crane.

In addition to core engineering disciplines – mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering – this year's graduates earned degrees in diverse fields such as defense and strategic studies, computational sciences and informatics, cybersecurity, engineering psychology, human resource management, accounting, and aerospace engineering, and leadership studies.
