DAHLGREN, Va. - Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) scientists Chris Von Hohenleiten and Emily Martin prepare for a laser lethality test by ensuring the optics are aligned correctly. The laser experts aligned the optics in the Navy's Laser Lethality and Development Laboratory which features an above-ground tunnel used for evaluating high energy laser weapon systems. The tunnel - crucial to gun range operations during World War II - was recently transformed into a vital new capability for testing laser technologies, NSWCDD officials announced April 21.

Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) leaders present a plaque to Raye Montague in appreciation of her keynote speech at the command sponsored Women's History Month Observance. Montague was the first person to design a U.S. Navy ship - the USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) - using a computer, revolutionizing naval ship design. The Navy's "hidden figure" spoke about her life and career experiences, sharing her words of wisdom to all gathered at the Naval Support Facility (base) theater to celebrate the observance. Local Teams Compete at NSWC Crane’s Sea, Air and Land Challenge

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division’s (NSWC Crane) Sea, Air and Land Challenge took place Saturday April 15 at Ivy Tech Community College’s main campus in Bloomington. The challenge is a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) initiative with a focus on engineering and robotics that fosters interest in DoD technologies by giving high school students hands-on experience and exposure to the Special Operations community.

The U.S. Navy and held a keel laying and authentication ceremony for the future USS Cincinnati (LCS 20) at Austal USA’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, April 10. LCS is a modular, reconfigurable ship designed to host interchangeable mission packages onto the seaframe in support of surface warfare, mine countermeasures, and anti-submarine warfare.
