Combat Direction Systems Activity Honors African American Heroes and History with Dramatic Readings

Heroes who were dramatically portrayed included (bottom row) Jesse Owens and (top row, left to right) Zora Neale Hurston, Thurgood Marshall, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., Mary McLeod Bethune, Daisy Bates, Michelle Obama and Carl Brashear.

Navy History & Heritage Leader Recounts WWII Heroism of Native American Navy Commander

IMAGE: Rear Adm. (Ret.) Samuel Cox, Director of the Naval History and Heritage Command, recently talked about his hero, Medal of Honor recipient Cmdr. Ernest Evans, at Combat Direction Systems Activity Dam Neck. The presentation was in honor of National American Indian Heritage Month. Evans was half-Cherokee and one-quarter Creek Indian and commanded USS Johnston (DD 557) in the Battle off Samar in World War II.

GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Sept. 8, 2017) - Combat Direction Systems Activity Dam Neck Commanding Officer Cmdr. Andrew J. Hoffman (left) presents his command coin to Seaman Recruit Kurtis Bacha of Ringgold, Ga., after presenting one to Seaman Recruit Jessica Barrera of Riverside, Calif.  Hoffman was among five CDSA personnel who traveled to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes after sponsoring Division 287 during their initial Navy training.

NSWC Dahlgren Division Leader Retires After 34 Years of Navy Civil Service

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  (May 18, 2017) - Bobby Starks is awarded a certificate of retirement from federal service by Cmdr. Andrew J. Hoffman, Commanding Officer of Combat Direction Systems Activity Dam Neck. Starks retired after more than 34 years as a Navy civilian.
