CDSA At Center of Modeling and Simulation in Hampton Roads

By NSWC Dahlgren Corporate Communications Division

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -  Combat Direction Systems Activity (CDSA) Dam Neck participated in the Hampton Roads Modeling and Simulation (ModSim) World Conference at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, April 25-27.

CDSA and its parent command, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), had five panel members and one moderator during the three day event that brought together military, defense and government contractors and academic experts to discuss the future of Modeling and Simulation.

"CDSA and NSWCDD engineers formed a core of several different panels, including senior leaders in modeling and simulation, training and technologies for defense and security. We are a big part of the Hampton Roads ModSim community and participating in conferences like this one helps us all learn from each and set direction for future cooperation," said Marty Vozzo, Integrated Training Systems Department Head at CDSA/NSWCDD.

Vozzo was a panelist on the Senior Leader panel discussing digital trends in government and industry. Lt. Cmdr. Chris Davidson, RAN, CDSA's Australian exchange officer, moderated the "Use and Advancement of M&S Technologies for Defense and Security" panel, which also featured Dr. Jeffrey Temple from NSWC Dahlgren Division.

ModSim World 2017 Conference Chair Dr. Eric Weisel of Old Dominion University added, "At MODSIM World we want to create a dialog.  MODSIM World is a unique conference in that it seeks to build bridges among the communities of practice that make up the world of M&S and explore the boundaries of M&S in adjacent technology areas like big data technologies.  These technologies, all with computational modeling as a core component, enable powerful new approaches to decision-making and training. CDSA was an outstanding supporter of MODSIM World this year.  There is an opportunity to energize the Hampton Roads academic, industry, and defense communities around digital transformation. CDSA is in the center of all of it."

CDSA is a Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division command that provides research, development, test and evaluation, analysis, systems engineering, and integration of complex naval systems associated with surface warfare and strategic combat and weapons systems. CDSA's work is focused on providing engineering, acquisition, and logistical support to Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Special Warfare, Coalition, and Joint Forces.
