NEEC Students Tour NSWC Dahlgren Division

DAHLGREN, Va. (April 26, 2017) - Roger Campbell, a Navy lethality engineer, explains the Laser Lethality and Development lab capabilities to undergraduate and graduate students touring Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) during the annual Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) meeting.  The students are looking through a 16" optic lens - part of the NSWCDD Laser Technology and  Analysis Branch laboratory's optics layout - used for evaluating laser effectiveness against various materials.

DAHLGREN, Va. - Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) scientists Chris Von Hohenleiten and Emily Martin prepare for a laser lethality test by ensuring the optics are aligned correctly. The laser experts aligned the optics in the Navy's Laser Lethality and Development Laboratory which features an above-ground tunnel used for evaluating high energy laser weapon systems. The tunnel - crucial to gun range operations during World War II - was recently transformed into a vital new capability for testing laser technologies, NSWCDD officials announced April 21.
