NSWC Dahlgren Engineers Mentor Students to First Place for Combatting Homelessness

IMAGE: RICHMOND, Va. (Nov. 23, 2019) - Members of the FIRST Lego League team called ‘The Robot Engineers’ are pictured during the Glen Allen Regional Tournament held at Deep Run High School. The team – comprising ten grade-school students from multiple public and home-school districts in metro-Richmond – received the first place Innovation Project Award for their solution to combat homelessness. Navy Officials Break Ground for New Cyber Warfare Engineering Laboratory

Navy officials, including NSWCDD leadership, broke ground for the facility Dec. 12. It will bring together the building blocks of existing capabilities into one place to provide a robust and flexible software and hardware testing capability for Department of Defense and Navy weapon systems, cyber and network platforms in addition to industrial control systems supporting DoD infrastructure.

Lloyd presented Beard – the U.K. assistant chief of the Naval Staff (Capability) – with a steel metal sample irradiated and penetrated in the command’s High Energy Laser Lethality laboratory. NSWCDD subject matter experts briefed Beard and his delegation of Royal Navy officers on programs and capabilities that included NSWCDD directed energy weapons such as the high energy laser, electromagnetic railgun, and hyper-velocity projectile in addition to high power radio frequency capabilities and the weaponization of unmanned systems. Naval Historians, Authors Highlight Battle of Midway Heroes at Dahlgren

(Nov. 15, 2019) - Timothy Orr, an associate professor of military history at Old Dominion University, and co-author of “Never Call Me A Hero: A Legendary American Dive-Bomber Pilot Remembers the Battle of Midway,” stresses the importance of never forgetting the Battle of Midway warfighters. He shares their stories as a part of the Naval Heritage Command Lecture Series sponsored by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Integrated Combat Systems Department Nov. 15 at the base theater. “No matter what they did, whether they came back or died out on the ocean, were wounded, or blew up in their plane – all of that is a story worth telling,” he said. “It explains how the U.S. eventually triumphed over the empire of Japan in the Pacific War. It really shapes the world as we know it today.”
