Artificial Intelligence Systems Integration Support Innovative Technology at NSWCDD

He also serves as the Naval Sea Systems Command Knowledge Point Champion for artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) systems, quantum sciences and digital sciences. Solka oversees AI/ML integration for various projects and leads AI/ML science and technology efforts. As part of a Naval Innovative Science Engineering initiative, Solka, Igor Shtau, lead artificial intelligence and machine learning engineer and Dr. Chris Weiland, acting chief scientist, discuss the integration of a Nvidia Jetson and optical targeting payload onto a manufactured quadcopter at NSWCDD. “The project is examining the effects of machine learning techniques on the kill chain and how these algorithms can be effectively verified and validated,” said Solka.

NEEC Graduates Provide NSWCPD with Experience and Expertise

PHILADELPHIA – Rowan University students and faculty toured Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) test sites and labs on Oct. 24 during a kick-off for the third year of a Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) research grant. STEM Educators Engage with Navy Scientists at ‘STEM Workshop for Educators’

Wessel was among the NSWCDD scientists and engineers who joined university professors at the workshop to share best practices and ideas for project based learning in STEM with elementary, middle, and high school educators. The forum featured briefings and demonstrations while the educators participated in hands-on activities that they could pass on to other teachers and students at their respective schools. The activities included, “Straw Rockets and Mini-Railgun”, “Ozobots and Littlebits Engineering”, and “EV3 LEGO Robotics”.

Louie was among 20 students who completed their internships at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). The Naval Research Enterprise Internship  Program (NREIP) encourages students to pursue science and engineering careers, furthers education via mentoring and their participation in research, and makes them aware of Navy research and technology efforts, which can lead to civilian employment within the Navy.

Navy and local academia host STEM Summer Camp

Dan Flisek, physicist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division teaches Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Camp students about how chemistry relates to local water samples affected by last year’s Category 5 Hurricane Michael. Flisek revealed to students, with a water-quality report, pollutants found in local water reservoirs from the storm’s aftermath.
