IMAGE: KING GEORGE, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth Governor’s School student Alex Dachos is pictured with the autonomous underwater glider he built over the course of a year via the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) SeaGlide Program. Dachos programmed, built, and demonstrated the SeaGlide independently under the guidance of NSWCDD science, technology, engineering and mathematics mentors. The robot collects data through sensors while moving and gliding by changing its pitch and buoyancy, often by taking in or expelling water. (U.S. Navy photo/Released)
