Robot Dogs and Drones 3D Mapping ‘Ghost Ships’ with Laser-based Sensors
August 30, 2022
Patrick Violante (centered in photo), team lead for Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division Advanced Data Acquisition Prototyping Technology Virtual Environments (ADAPT.VE) and his team of engineers and scientists are testing both Boston Dynamics and Ghost Robotics Robot Dogs to explore cutting-edge technology and enhance capabilities. These robot dogs are four-legged droids. Designed to minimize human exposure to danger, the semi-autonomous robot dog features a state-of-the art sensor package for both security, surveillance and 3D image capture from its multiple cameras. The concept will demonstrate value of 3D scanning for battle damage assessment and repair and assess the ability for the dogs to be used in theatre to fill critical roles.
