ATLANTIC OCEAN—A Longbow Hellfire Missile is fired from Littoral Combat Ship USS Detroit (LCS 7) on Feb. 28 as part of a structural test firing of the Surface to Surface Missile Module (SSMM). The test marked the first vertical missile launched from an LCS and the first launch of a missile from the SSMM from an LCS.

The attenuator has reduced noise levels in the work area from 108 decibels to 84 decibels, reducing the risk of hearing loss by workers and eliminating the need for double hearing protection.

After tracing her initials onto the keel plate of DDG 121 -- the future USS FRANK E. PETERSEN, JR. -- Mrs. D'Arcy Neller, authenticator and ship sponsor, watches from behind a protective mask as Ingalls Shipbuilding structural welder Jeremy Lally etches her initials into the ship's keel plate.  The keel authentication ceremony for DDG 121 was held Tuesday morning, Feb. 21, at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, MS.  Also observing at left is Ingalls Shipbuilding President Mr. Brian Cuccias.  The keel's co-authenticator, Mr. Donald Brabston, a 50-year Ingalls employee, was unable to attend.

NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PANAMA CITY Fla. (February 2, 2017) - Sailors at the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU) stand next to Cmdr. Jay Young, commanding officer of NEDU (right), after emerging from the Ocean Simulation Facility (OSF).  The Sailors coming out of the OSF had just finished the first 500 ft. saturation dive in over 10 years.
