DAHLGREN, Va. (Aug. 25, 2016) - Rear Adm. Tom Druggan, right, commander, Naval Surface Warfare Center, salutes Vice Adm. NREIP Interns Impact Navy Technologies, Return to College, Plan DoD Careers

DAHLGREN, Va. — Florida State University student Charisa Powell presents her research on the “Development of Software Tools for Simulation Prototypes” to military and government personnel during her 2016 summer internship. Powell - among 22 students who completed their internships at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) - is working towards a bachelor’s degree in computer science. The Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP) encourages students to pursue science and engineering careers, furthers education via mentoring and their participation in research, and makes them aware of Navy research and technology efforts, which can lead to civilian employment within the Navy.

Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Commanding Officer CAPT Brian Durant pauses with ten Vietnam War Veterans after personally honoring them with commemorative pins and certificates during a ceremony at the command's Vietnam Commemoration held at the University of Mary Washington, Aug. 11. The event's keynote speaker, Brig. Gen. Wilma Vaught, USAF retired, (left) recounted the women in service - as well as her own service - during the Vietnam era and the challenges they faced. She was the first woman to deploy with an Air Force bomber unit, the first Air Force woman graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and one of the most-decorated military women in U.S. history.
