USS Lake Champlain conducts light-off test of Periscope Detection and Discrimination Capability

140725-N-FC670-226 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 25, 2014) The guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) underway in close formation as one of forty-two ships and submarines representing 15 international partner nations during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2014. Champlain is currently conducting live-fire testing off the coast of California with its 5-inch guns to verify the new mode on the SPQ-9B while the crew undergoes operator training to ensure proficiency with the new capability. USS Porter Conducts First SeaRAM Firing from DDG

160304-N-AL577-001 ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 4, 2016) SeaRAM, a new system for guided-missile destroyers, is test fired March 4, 2016 from the guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78). Porter is forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, and is preparing for deployment in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.

USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) Completes Builder's Trials

GULF OF MEXICO - The Navy's future amphibious transport dock, John P. Murtha (LPD 26) successfully completed Builder's Trials March 4. The principal mission of LPD 17 San Antonio class ships is to deploy combat and support elements of Marine Expeditionary Units and Brigades. With the capability of transporting and debarking air cushion or conventional landing craft and augmented by helicopters or MV-22 vertical take-off and landing aircraft, these ships support amphibious assault, special operations, and expeditionary warfare missions. Future USS Portland (LPD 27) Launches

PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The future USS Portland (LPD 27) was successfully launched at the Huntington Ingalls Industries shipyard Feb 13. The ship was transferred from the land level facility to the drydock, which was then flooded allowing her to float off the blocks. LPD 17 class ships are versatile players in maritime security with the ability to support a variety of amphibious assault, special operations or expeditionary warfare missions.
