Norfolk Naval Shipyard’s (NNSY) Engineering and Planning Department’s Propulsion Machinery Branch recently teamed with the NNSY Technology and Innovation Lab to design, develop and manufacture a 3D-printed stave measurement to precisely measure waterborne bearing stave widths to facilitate ship propulsion system work.

Capt. Dianna Wolfson surprised members of the Contracts Department (Code 400), Operations Department (Code 300) and Business Office (Code 1200) who worked an urgent contract for cleaning the sanitary tanks for USS Pasadena (SSN 752). She surprised the awardees on site at the Pasadena as part of the first episode of America’s Shipyard to recognize them for their efforts and to hear from them personally about what drives them each day as they serve America’s Shipyard. Bravo Zulu All!

Shipyard Family Legacy: A Tribal Chief, Firefighters, and Riggers

Former employee Richard Coburn being given a certificate to commemorate his 30 years of government service; photo of Earl and Lucille Bass; Nansemond Tribal Chief Earl Bass was featured in a segment in the Virginian-Pilot called The Clipper, in which the writer talks about Bass’s hunting skills and the 30 years he spent as a machinist at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). He was also featured in traditional Nansemond tribal attire in his church’s directory.

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire & Emergency Services: Firefighters Promoted to Captain in Ceremony

These five firefighters were promoted to captain during a promotion ceremony held at Norfolk Naval Shipyard’s (NNSY’s) Trophy Park on Monday, Feb. 1. These newly promoted captains will be assigned to NNSY and Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Fire District 2.

NNSY Employees Create Innovative Filtration Units in the Fight Against COVID-19

Special filtration units, designed by Advanced Industrial Management (Code 300) Program Manager Bill Young, help minimize the spread of COVID-19 by purifying the air with filtering it and blowing it straight up. Many were involved in the design, prototyping and fabrication of the filtration units helping to prevent spread of COVID-19 and protect the safety and health of employees , including Champions - Dean Barrett and Ralph Gagnon; Executive Support - RDML Markle, CAPT Rossler, Fred McKenna; Funding, Procurement, Testing and Support - Jeremy Gerdes, Scott Sikora, Christopher Poloisky, James Berlin, Cindy Edwards, Brian Bennett, Jason Fudala; and Design and Fabrication - Stan Bailey, Matt Magruder, William D.
