Dahlgren Sailors and Civilians Celebrate Navy's 244th Birthday

IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. (Oct. 16, 2019) – The oldest and youngest Sailors attending the Navy's 244th anniversary celebration cut the birthday cake at Gray's Landing on the Potomac Restaurant. The Navy birthday cake-cutting ceremony is important to all Sailors, as it is an annual renewal of each Sailor's commitment to the Navy and the Navy's commitment to our nation's quest for peace and freedom worldwide. The Sailors cut the cake with a sword, a traditional reminder that they are among a band of warriors, committed to carrying arms so that the United States and its people may live in peace. Miguel Keith Completes Acceptance Trials

The future USNS Miguel Keith (ESB 5) departs General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. shipyard in San Diego, Calif. During the weeklong acceptance trials, the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey conducted comprehensive tests to demonstrate and evaluate the performance of all of the ship's major systems.
