NSWC Crane employee awarded for significant contributions in preparation for the Inspector General Inspection
August 2, 2023 — Garry Wieneke was awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal, which is the fourth highest honorary award within the Department of the Navy, for his work as the Command Inspection Coordinator. In this role Wieneke was charged with preparing NSWC Crane for an upcoming inspection performed by the Inspector General. Upon receiving his award Wieneke stated that he was incredibly honored to receive such a prestigious award. “I am humbled and honored to receive this Civilian Service Commendation Medal. Garry Wieneke was awarded the Civilian Service Commendation Medal, which is the fourth highest honorary award within the Department of the Navy, for his work as the Command Inspection Coordinator. In this role Wieneke was charged with preparing NSWC Crane for an upcoming inspection performed by the Inspector General. Wieneke oversaw an inspection preparation team from across the command who performed mock inspections, ensured processes are up-to-date, and self-assessed NSWC Crane’s compliance areas. Wieneke also traveled to an Inspector General Inspection at the Southeast Regional Maintenance Center in Jacksonville, Florida to better understand the overall inspection process and document lessons learned.

Navy Lays Keel for Future USS Oklahoma (SSN 802)
August 2, 2023 — Senior Navy leaders and shipbuilders gathered at HII-Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) Wednesday, Aug. 2, to attend a keel-laying authentication for the future Virginia-class submarine USS Oklahoma (SSN 802). The keel laying signifies a major milestone in the life of a ship where the ship begins to transition from design to reality. NSWC Crane supports DOD-wide, joint warfighting experimentation to further rapid modernization
August 1, 2023 — “OSD’s successful testing exercise highlights not only Indiana’s highly talented workforce and excellent facilities, but also our enduring relationship with NSWC Crane. This partnership nests the Indiana National Guard’s modernized ranges and facilities with NSWC’s technical prowess,” said Maj. Gen. Dale Lyles, Indiana National Guard adjutant general. “This provides the defense enterprise inimitable capabilities to effectively test leading edge solutions.” NSWC Crane supported a Department of Defense (DOD) joint warfighting experimentation event at Camp Atterbury, Indiana on May 16-24. More than 30 government and industry organizations participated in TREX23-1, accelerating joint innovation and providing real-world data for future warfighting concept development. Dr. Kyle Werner, the Deputy Technical Director at NSWC Crane, said Camp Atterbury provided a great testing environment for TREX23-1 participants. “Our partners at the Indiana National Guard and Camp Atterbury provided a robust testing environment for participants,” says Dr. Werner. “TREX23-1 was an incredible display of innovation and technical prowess. The combined Indiana ecosystem is full of talent to support the DOD’s high priority rapid modernization effort and RDER.” ... MORE
