NEWPORT, RI - NUWC Division Newport, one of two divisions of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, is the Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, and fleet support center for submarine warfare systems and many other systems associated with the undersea battlespace.

In-Service Engineering Support

WHAT WE DO MATTERS: In-service engineering and at-sea testing to advance U.S. Navy systems are some of the ways NUWC Division Newport supports the fleet.

UUV Launch and Recovery

WHAT WE DO MATTERS: Division Newport’s Engineering and Diving Support Unit provided launch and recovery support for an LDUUV at the Narragansett Bay Test Facility in 2022.

Award-Winning Scientists and Engineers

The AN/BYG-1 Combat Control VTwin Team won the 2020 Assistant Secretary of the Navy RD&A Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scientists and Engineers Award.

NUWC Division Newport-sponsored robotics team finishes among top alliances at world competition

Team 78 AIR STRIKE of Aquidneck Island Robotics in Rhode Island, sponsored by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, attended the 2025 FIRST World Championship held April 16-19 in Houston, Texas. The team reached the finals of the Daly Division — finishing among the top 16 alliances in the world. Michael Connelly, technical project manager for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport’s Undersea Warfare Platforms and Payload Integration Department, is the winner of the 2024 Frank C. Jones Award from the American Society of Naval Engineers, which recognizes naval engineering professionals who have substantially and significantly contributed to their agency’s intermediate alteration programs.

Dr. Steven Spear, a renowned author and senior lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, speaks to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport workforce on April 28, 2025.
