Dahlgren Sailors and Civilians Celebrate Navy's 244th Birthday
October 16, 2019
IMAGE: DAHLGREN, Va. (Oct. 16, 2019) – The oldest and youngest Sailors attending the Navy's 244th anniversary celebration cut the birthday cake at Gray's Landing on the Potomac Restaurant. The Navy birthday cake-cutting ceremony is important to all Sailors, as it is an annual renewal of each Sailor's commitment to the Navy and the Navy's commitment to our nation's quest for peace and freedom worldwide. The Sailors cut the cake with a sword, a traditional reminder that they are among a band of warriors, committed to carrying arms so that the United States and its people may live in peace.
