NORFOLK, VA. –
Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center (CNRMC) concluded its first Workforce Development (WFD) training event for Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Detachment Bahrain located on Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain Aug. 3.
The training for Det Bahrain was conducted from July 10 through Aug. 3, and included the Project Manager/Contract Specialist/Port Engineer Course, the Shipbuilding Specialist Phase I & II Course, and the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items Course.
“We provide a series of standardized WFD training courses to each of the Navy’s Regional Maintenance Centers (RMCs) throughout the year to ensure consistency in the application of the governing maintenance directives, the quality of job performance by maintenance professionals, and to provide a baseline level of knowledge for project team members across all of the RMCs,” said CNRMC’s Workforce Development Program Manager, Rick Simmons.
According to Simmons, a total of 25 personnel were trained, including three project managers, four marine surveyors and 10 shipbuilding specialists from FDRMC, as well as seven port engineers and one combat system port engineer from both U.S. Fleet Forces Command and U.S. Pacific Fleet.
“By standardizing each area, we have enabled the RMCs to balance their capabilities and increase cross-command responsiveness and ad-hoc assistance. Through standardization, RMCs are able to share resources through personnel loans and borrows, when port-loading requirements dictate,” said CNRMC Rear Adm. Jim Downey. “It also supports our RMC employees by providing them with a defined career path through uniform training and qualification requirements.”
FDRMC Det Bahrain provides intermediate- and depot-level maintenance for 10 homeported coastal patrol ships and four mine-countermeasures ships. The detachment also provides Voyage Repair planning, execution and oversight for ships operating in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
FDRMC is headquartered in Naples, Italy with detachments in Manama, Bahrain and Rota, Spain.
