MARMC Partners with SERMC to Assist Fleet in C2X

By Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center Public Affairs

NORFOLK, Virginia. - The Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) provided technical and engineering support to the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group during a Command and Control Exercise (C2X) off the coast of Florida during the first week of February 2015.

Carrier strike groups preparing for deployment take part in a month long C2X in order to run simulated scenarios and battle sequences to ensure all systems on board each ship in the group are functioning and flexed properly.

"What the Strike Groups do is take all of their ship and submarine assets, and they run through every warfare problem that we can possibly think of to make sure each ship and crew member is trained and ready to go pre-deployment," said Chief Warrant Officer Dwight Baker of MARMC's Engineering Department.

MARMC's Combat Systems (Electronics) Division provided nine technicians on scene and dedicated two distance support technicians to troubleshoot casualty reports on satellite communications systems, electronic warfare systems, close-in weapons systems, and global command and control systems.

"A lot of our attention is on intel systems that acquire data which is used to ascertain the intelligence picture of the battle problem," said Baker. "Within the first 24 hours of having our tech reps on board, we started to make an impact in getting systems with issues operating correctly."

Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic Rear Admiral J. R. Haley recognized the immediate effect by MARMC while corresponding with Baker early in the exercise. "[The ship's] capabilities have already improved and it has made a significant difference in training objectives . the experts sent are already making headway," said Haley.

"This is a little out of the box from what MARMC usually does. We are a maintenance command and not an operational organization, but we have met the challenges facing the fleet and will continue to do so whenever called upon," said Baker.

MARMC will continue to support the strike group until the exercise completes in mid-February.
