NSWCDD selected the teams after they submitted white papers outlining why they were the best choice and how they could provide a solution to the cyber challenge. Next, they will compete at UMW’s Dahlgren Campus.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony Oct. 23 at UMW’s Dahlgren Campus.
One of NSWCDD’s priorities is to develop innovative solutions that strengthen our nation’s cyber defenses and enhance naval weapon systems’ resiliency against cyber threats.
“The challenge aims to foster innovative thinking,” said Katie Young, NSWCDD Distinguished Scientist for Combat Systems Security and Challenge Champion. “We constantly seek out new thoughts, approaches and technologies.”
By participating in the challenge, these teams are helping NSWCDD explore the solution space to measure and assess the cyber defensive capabilities.
“We develop and deliver advanced combat and weapon systems to equip our warfighters to deter and defeat our adversaries and protect our national interests,” Young said. “We always look for new perspectives and ways to solve problems. We never give up.”
This event marks NSWCDD’s second collegiate innovation challenge. The first one was an Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Innovation Challenge held in March 2023.
The Cyber Resiliency and Measurement Challenge is not open to the public. Media wishing to attend should contact Jennifer Erickson in NSWCDD Public Affairs at (540) 653-5859.
