SUPSHIP Groton’s visited by the boss, NAVSEA

SUPSHIP GROTON, Conn. (May. 18, 2022) – Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Groton, Capt. Andrew Gillespy welcomed Vice Adm. William Galinis, Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command.  Galins was here for a two day visit, visiting our facilities and Electric Boat facilities in Groton today and each of our Quonset Point, Rhode Island facilities tomorrow.

Galinis spoked to Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton employees (deck plate engagement) via Microsoft TEAMS and because of COVID restriction, to a limited number of team members in person.   Later, he also spoke to Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton First Line Supervisors followed by Department Heads and Deputies.  Gillespy led Galinis to his office for a short window tour of the yard provided by SSGR Team Members.  A luncheon followed with military team members and Galinis for a meet and greet.  During his time with us, Galinis also presented the Department of the Navy, Civilian Service Achievement Medal to James Chianese, Code 180C3, Organizational Development Specialist, Operations/Workforce Development Division and Kevin Castleberry, Code 156B, VIRGINIA Class Construction Manager, Changes/CM Division and a Department of the Navy, Civilian Service Commendation Medal to Robert Malone, Code 156A, Supervisor General Engineer, Deputy VIRGINIA Class Project Office.

The next day, Galinis visited Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton employees at the Quonset Point, Rhode Island location for a deckplate engagement.  Supervisor of Shipbuilding Groton, Executive Director, Gary Kirkpatrick along with Commander Kerry Bosche, Program Manager Representative, COLUMBIA welcomed Galinis.

Gillespy passed on a few words to his Team, “Appreciate the engagement” with the boss. Also, “VADM Galinis left Groton impressed by the engagement and discussion with you and the work we are doing getting submarines to sea.”  Also, “He was particularly thankful for the challenging questions and thoughtful discussions at the all hands and with the first line supervisors.” said Gillespy.

Galinis had the opportunity to visit Electric Boat executive staff for briefings on the COLUMBIA and VIRINIA Programs among other items and toured Building 260, Submarine Final Assembly tour and the South Yard Assembly Building Site.  Then at Quonset Point facilities, he had a briefing with Electric Boat on Strategic Sourcing and Vendor Oversight.  Included a facility tour of Building 9, Module Outfitting Building, the VPM Annex and the COLUMBIA CMC and Tube Outfitting in building 2019) and the Holland Pier.
