WASHINGTON – Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) has been selected for the second straight year as the recipient of the annual Commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center’s RMC Excellence Award.
The award is presented to a single RMC for outstanding performance and fleet support in the execution and oversight of surface ship repair, maintenance, and modernization. Commands are evaluated on a number of criteria to include: mission accomplishments, innovative and effective use of maintenance resources, and quality of life programs.
“While all of our Regional Maintenance Centers are moving the needle and improving our readiness posture, the men and women, sailors and civilians, of our Southeast team set themselves apart in demonstrating superior performance,” said Rear Adm. Eric H. Ver Hage, commander, Navy Regional Maintenance Center and director, Surface Ship Maintenance & Modernization. “I’m incredibly proud of this team’s efforts, working collaboratively with their industry partners, to provide world class ship readiness and operational capability to our warfighters.”
SERMC’s ability to ensure all 22 Mayport-based ships and other visiting ships operating in the Southeast Region were combat ready and maintained the highest level of readiness was paramount to SERMC winning the award.
Over the year, SERMC successfully planned and executed five Chief of Naval Operations Availabilities, 118 Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAV), 3,136 Fleet Tech Assists, and resolved 425 Casualty Reports including emergent repairs onboard USS Detroit (LCS 7) ensuring the 4th Fleet’s newest asset was ready on time for deployment, becoming the first East Coast Littoral Combat Ship deployer.
In addition, SERMC conducted 15 Maintenance Assist Teams visits training more than 65 Sailors, encompassing over 4,500 man-hours of maintenance, leading to the accomplishment of over 800 Planned Maintenance System checks and correcting more than 125 discrepancies. SERMC executed 61 Planned Maintenance Availabilities on eight Littoral Combat Ships, encompassing more than 19,424 man-hours of maintenance, accomplishing 23,689 maintenance checks.
SERMC also completed 81% of 118 CMAVs on-time, reducing maintenance delays and improving ship depot-level maintenance and modernization.
“Our ability to remain focused, act with a sense of urgency, think differently, challenge assumptions and take targeted risks positioned us to respond effectively, and the willingness and dedication of the entire workforce allowed us to flex and succeed,” said Capt. John Lobuono, commanding officer Southeast Regional Maintenance Center.
As the recipient of the annual RMC Excellence award, SERMC will now be nominated by CNRMC to compete for the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment’s annual maintenance award for a field level activity.
CNRMC is a NAVSEA field activity and oversees the operations of Regional Maintenance Centers in their execution of surface ship maintenance and modernization.
