USS Devastator Returns to Fifth Fleet Upon Completing Availability

By Team Ships Public Affairs

Manama, Bahrain - Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC) Detachment Bahrain has returned USS Devastator (MCM 6) back to operations after successfully completing a scheduled Selected Restricted Availability (SRA).

The USS Devastator, one of four Mine Countermeasure Ships homeported in Bahrain, is an Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship capable of finding, classifying and destroying moored and bottom mines. These ships serve a vital role ensuring freedom of navigation in the Arabian Gulf, one of the most critical bodies of water for international travel.

MCMs are scheduled to complete a SRA every three years as part of their planned maintenance cycle to ensure their operational readiness. Devastator’s SRA was accomplished by a dedicated project team comprised of individuals from FDRMC, Ship’s Force, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center, and BASREC shipyard.

“This was an incredible team effort.  Working together to optimize schedule and deliver Devastator back to the fleet fully mission capable is a testament to the Project Team’s commitment to achieving on time delivery,” said Capt. Gustavo Vergara, Commanding Officer for FDRMC.

USS Devastator is assigned to the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) conducting missions in support of the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.

FDRMC provides contract management oversight, fleet technical assistance, voyage repair, and diving and salvage to Forward Deployed Naval Forces in Europe and the Middle East and deployed ships in the 5th and 6th Fleet (AOR).
