BREMERTON, Wash –
Employees from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility worked throughout the weekend to put together more than 2,000 cleaning kits to use around the command in an effort to amplify sanitation efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cleaning kits, which contain disinfecting cleaning solution, wipes, gloves and instructions, will be distributed early this week to projects and building managers throughout the shipyard, to include PSNS & IMF’s detachments at Bangor and Everett.
“The health and safety of our workforce and community is - and always will be - the shipyard’s top priority. The shipyard’s efforts and planning are focused on ensuring we are aligned with DoD guidance, implementing CDC recommendations and fulfilling our critical national security mission,” said Capt. Dianna Wolfson, commander, PSNS & IMF.
Approximately 15 employees from Shop 06, tooling and logistics and Code 500, supply and logistics, volunteered to work throughout the weekend to put the cleaning kits together.
“This was a phenomenal effort by our team,” said Floyd Sawyer, trade superintendent with Shop 06. “The willingness of so many to come in and help out was inspiring to see.”
Klint Kirkpatrick, a general foreman with Shop 06, who took part in the effort, encouraged everyone to ensure they read and followed the instructions included.
“The instructions include important information such as reminders to allow the cleaning solution to sit for 10 minutes before using,” said Kirkpatrick. “So be sure to take a look before you put the items to use.”
