NSWCDD National Disability Employment Awareness Month profile, Bonnie Roman, Management Analyst

By NSWCDD Corporate Communications

Bonnie Roman began her government career as a summer hire at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) in 1987, serving as a procurement technician in the command’s contracts office where she closed out 150 contracts.

While working at Dahlgren, Roman completed an associate of applied science degree in computerized data management in 1993. She earned a second degree in 1996 upon completing an associate of applied science degree in business administration and management.

Today, Roman is a management analyst in the NSWCDD Corporate Operations Department, serving as the command’s Integrated Budget Planning and Execution System (IBPES) lead. Roman enjoys assisting employees with their IBPES accounts while providing guidance via the command’s Property Management Division related to procurement and funding. She coordinates transaction requests, ensuring they are approved and expedited for the purchase of materials and services in support of command requirements.

Moreover, Roman’s expertise ensures that NSWCDD, the Joint Warfare Analysis Center (JWAC) and the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) can accurately prepare contract requirements for their customers in a timely fashion. JWAC commended Roman for her guidance and assistance to expedite crucial equipment to a remote location of the world. CSCS commended her for ensuring that funds were received in the NSWCDD Contracts Division in support of the AEGIS Training and Readiness Center’s mission.

As the NSWCDD Corporate Operations Department telecommunications representative, Roman is responsible to ensure the department’s landline phone requests are processed in order to install new lines or repair the current lines. She also reviews and approves electronic information technology requests for new wireless devices or replacements for I-Phones, I-Pads or jet packs.

“Most people I have interactions with don’t realize that I am deaf in my right ear since I have adapted to losing my hearing as a child,” said Roman. “When I am not working, I love to travel to see different scenery throughout the United States and other countries.”
